Volunteer opportunities are also available with gearUP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs). gearUP is a college access program that works with students, parents and teachers to help them gain access to higher education through academic support, information, and enrichment programs. gearUP serves an entire group of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follows this group through high school. The Cincinnati gearUP partnership includes Parents for Public Schools of Greater Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati State, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, Cincinnati Public Schools, Cincinnati Reds, and the Enquirer.
PPS encourages all parents to pursue volunteer opportunities which might be available at your child’s school. Such opportunities may include, but are not limited to:
- Classroom volunteer
- Hall, lunchroom or playground monitor
- School office assistant
- Parent organization member
- Local School Decision Making Committee (LSDMC) member
- Fundraising coordinator
- Tutor
- Field trip chaperone
