PPSGC Receives Best Practices Award!

 

During the recent Parents for Public Schools National Leadership Conference in Columbia, Missouri PPS of Greater Cincinnati received a Best Practices Award for collaboration between the chapter, community organizations and higher education by the creation of the PPSGC Parent Handbook which improves the environment and relationships in which parents are participating.

Marche’ Thomas, PLI fellow gave the parents point of view at the recent State of Cincinnati Public Schools Address. Serving as the PTO President and a member of the Local School Decision Making Committee (LSDMC) at South Avondale Marche’ shared how much the school has grown. She explained that the new culture at the school is a partnership between students, parents, teachers, administrators and community partners. Marche’ was invited by Superintendent Mary Ronan after she presented during last week’s Community Conversation.

The Ohio Department of Education selected several local / state PLI projects as Parent Engagement Promising Partnership Practices! The projects that are highlighted on ODE website are:

 

Ngone Thiam’s – “Reading Is a Must”

TeSheia Thomas – “Montessori and Me”

Leonard Dean – “Donuts for Dad”

Kimberly Castaneda – “Tuesday Read II’s”

 

Each graduate focused on increasing academic achievement levels while increasing parent involvement.
